Lawrence A. (Larry) Roehrig has served as President of Michigan Council 25 since 2017 after serving as Secretary-Treasurer since 1979.

An AFSCME member since 1971, he served the City of Flint as a Traffic Studies Technician, License Investigator, and Senior Appraiser. During his time as a member of Local 1600, he held positions as First Vice President, Chief Steward, PAC Committee Treasurer, Grievance Chairman, Full Time Union Representative, and on the Executive Boards of AFSCME Councils 29 and 25 before election as Secretary-Treasurer of Council 25.

He served as an International Vice President from 2000 to 2004 and again from 2008 to present, and also served on the International Union’s Judicial Panel from 2004-2007.

IVP Roehrig has also served as a General Board member and Executive Council member of the Michigan State AFL-CIO since 1979 and as Vice Chairperson of the Michigan AFL-CIO Community Services Committee since 1995.

He has been heavily involved in the United Way of Michigan, serving as Secretary-Treasurer, First Vice Chair, and Chairman of the Board. His community service has also extended to service on the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross, Board of Directors of the Greater Flint HMO, the Governor’s Special I-75 Corridor Task Force, the City of Flint Ombudsman’s Advisory Council, the United Way of Genesee and Lapeer Counties, the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, and leader of countless GOTV operations for more than 30 years.

He has been honored with the 2004 William C. Lucas Community Services Award, 1998 Joseph A. Beirne Community Service Award from the United Way, and the 1977 Flint Rogues Rugby Football Club “Rookie of the Year”.
