Amendment of PA 112 to allow collective bargaining on the issue of outsourcing (privatization) House Bill 4219, which would repeal that section of Public Act 112 that makes outsourcing of non-instructional public school jobs a prohibited subject of collective bargaining passed the House of Representatives and awaits action in the Senate. Senator Wayne Kuipers (R-Holland), Chair of the Senate Education Committee, continues to stonewall our efforts to gain a hearing on this critical legislation which is presently before his committee. Discussions are underway with House Democratic leadership to put additional pressure on the Republican controlled Senate to get movement on this critical piece of legislation. We are working with brother and sister unions within the AFL-CIO to reach out to CTW unions and the MEA in an effort to maximize our pressure on the Senate to act before the end of the year; but odds are we will have to begin anew next year.
